Why You'll Love This Safari
The Valley of the Leopard

South Luangwa is renowned for its leopards, with the Luangwa River and surrounding woodland creating ideal habitat. It is a place where patience can be richly rewarded, particularly as the day begins or fades into night.
Walking Into the Wild

Walking changes the way you experience the bush. Tracks in the dust, alarm calls in the trees and tiny movements in the grass become part of the story, bringing you closer to the landscape than a vehicle ever can.
The Luangwa River

The river is the lifeblood of the valley, winding through woodland and open plains before disappearing into a network of lagoons and channels. As the dry season progresses, its water draws wildlife from across the surrounding wilderness.
Wildlife in Concentration

South Luangwa can be alive with wildlife. Elephants and buffalo gather around the river, hippos fill the deeper pools and predators follow the abundance of prey across the valley.
The Wildness of the Valley

South Luangwa still feels wonderfully untamed. Away from the busier safari routes, long stretches of woodland, floodplain and river can unfold without another vehicle in sight, giving the valley a sense of space that is becoming increasingly rare.
A Valley That Changes With the Seasons

The landscape shifts dramatically through the year. The dry months draw wildlife towards the river, while the rains transform the valley into a lush green wilderness filled with migratory birds and new life.
Lodges In Our Portfolio
The Soul of South Luangwa is built around four carefully selected lodges, each offering a different way to experience the Luangwa Valley. From the remote northern wilderness of Lion Camp to the elevated views of Puku Ridge, the classic safari character of Kafunta and the secluded setting of Sungani, each brings its own rhythm to this wildlife-rich corner of Zambia.

Kafunta River Lodge
Overlooking the wildlife-rich floodplains of the Luangwa River, Kafunta is a relaxed, classic Zambian safari lodge with an exceptionally strong sense of place. The lodge sits outside the national park but provides access to the wilderness via a seasonal pontoon, while the floodplain directly in front of camp becomes a spectacle of its own. Game drives, night drives and walking combine with the lodge's warm hospitality to create an easy-going introduction to South Luangwa.

The All Out Safaris Perspective
South Luangwa asks you to slow down and pay attention.
On foot, a safari becomes less about how many animals you can see and more about everything happening around you: a leopard's tracks in the dust, alarm calls moving through the trees or the sudden silence that tells you something is nearby. Then you return to the vehicle and follow the river into a valley alive with elephants, hippos, predators and birds.
That is the soul of South Luangwa. You do not simply drive through it. You become part of its rhythm.
